Initially this book was supposed to be designed by David Carson, but after a few rounds of comps he pulled out of the project and I stepped in. There were approximately 4 months to gather and prep 500+ images. The idea was quite simple: showcase the models and photography in a way that is elegant, fun, yet still timeless. Over the years of designing for SG the brand developed a very messy, yet organic, collage aesthetics. Keeping that in mind, I toned it down and layered the photographs in a way was not too distracting but still visually appealing. I, of course, accepted and embarked on a journey that would provide me with no sleep and issues upon issues of material I was/am proud of. This issue was an extreme challenge. Everything from work flow to setting the tone for future issues. I will, humbly, say that the design has stepped up dramatically in future issues. The biggest change we made from Issue 01 to 02 was getting rid of all the text on the cover. The cover for Issue 02 was incredibly strong and we felt that alone would be enough to make someone pick up the magazine.
